KAU, represented by the Faculty of Maritime Studies has sent 20 students from the Ports and Shipping Department for training for a month at the US Maine Marine Academy. This visit is considered the first of its kind for KAU students and aims at visiting international ports and learning about their management and operation.
This experience has been published by American Miner magazine that relates the story of these KAU Saudi trainees who demonstrated an honoring academic proficiency level befitting KAU prestige and reputation.
KAU President, Prof. Abdulrahman Al Youbi praised, in a letter of thanks addressed to the Dean of the Faculty of Maritime Studies, Dr. Salem Al Harbi, saying that this achievement reflects the faculty administration intensified efforts towards the success of such experience. Prof. Al Youbi also hoped that this experience represents an incentive for further scientific and successful achievements that will take the Faculty and its students to farther scientific excellence ratings in the field of maritime studies.
From his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Maritime Studies praised in his name and on behalf of the Faculty staff and students KAU Executive Management support for the Faculty's initiatives, experiences and projects. He also indicated that the training of students abroad is part of the curriculum of the Department of Ports and Shipping.
He also indicated that during this training, the students were divided into small groups, were exposed to a series of lectures on maritime logistics, and have been trained on maritime simulator and petroleum ships Simulator.
At the end of the program, students from each group were asked to submit competitive presentations containing the creation of a port, its finance program as well as suggested management and operational strategies.
He also pointed out that KAU students have been treated and evaluated in the same way as seriously and rigorously as the other students of the Academy.
Dr. Al Harbi stressed the Faculty's keenness and quest for its advancement and distinctive representation of KAU in local and international forums and meetings.
